The State Port Pilot annual cookie contest


                          MAAMOUL RECIPE


4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup sugar

2 eggs

4 1/2 bars of butter, softened

2 tablespoons whiskey


Filling: 4 cups ground shelled walnut

          1 cup sugar

          1 teaspoon orange blossom water

          2 teaspoons rose water

You will need a wooden maamoul mold and 1 cup of powdered sugar.


In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, eggs, butter and whiskey.

Mix together well till you get dough consistency, shape into 1/2 in. ball then flat it out slightly and place a good teaspoon of filling in center, close dough around filling to cover it, pack it into mold, level it with the lip of the mold, tap cookies out with a firm hit to the top of the mold, place 2 in.apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Preheat oven 350 F, bake 15-18 minutes or until barely colored, cool completely before you sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

Yield about 5 dozens (depend on the size of the mold).
